In line with our company value of excellence, SEM look to reward all employees with improvement ideas that enhance the quality of the product, reduce time, eliminate waste or improve safety. Should an idea be put in place, you will receive an £80 bonus.
For all staff working in production we recognise the importance of the contribution that you make with a discretionary monthly bonus based on production figures. This can be taken monthly or saved to be used at the end of the year.
We are proud of the expertise and attitude of our employees, and so when we have a vacancy we are always pleased to have recommendations from internal staff if they know of someone suitable for the position. Should you recommend someone who remains in the role for 6 months, you will receive a £250 bonus in your pay as a thank you for the successful introduction.
As a gesture of thanks for all the hard work over the year, we provide all employees with a family sized portion of fresh meat before the Christmas closedown. We also aim to get everyone in the festive spirit with raffles and a special Christmas countdown menu in the run up to the big day.
At Easter we provide everyone with a chocolate egg to take home, and at other points during the year we have special events based around celebrations, including themed raffles and giveaways.
SEM go above and beyond the statutory minimum for annual leave by providing all fulltime staff with 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays. This is pro rata for part-time staff.
We offer all employees a selection of free work wear, which has been rigorously tested for comfort and safety, including safety shoes. This will be provided to you when you join and you can simply request more from the HR team whenever it becomes worn or needs replacing.
We recognise that working on an empty stomach is no fun at all, so we provide a fully-stocked restaurant on site at SEM, run by fully qualified chefs. You can expect to find a full cooked breakfast, pastries, hot lunch, sandwiches and salad bar there- a special mention must be given to curry Tuesdays, the highlight of the week! A full plate of curry, poppadum, bhajis and rice will set you back just £3.
Charity Fundraising and Events
We believe in involvement with the local community, and supporting local initiatives as much as possible. For these reasons we decided to support the local charity Choices, which provides resources for those in need of help due to domestic abuse. throughout the year we organise cake sales, raffles and even a cheese day to raise money for this important cause- see more on our news page!
Of course there are many causes that are close to our hearts, and as well as supporting our company charity Choices, we also encourage other fundraising events being organised by staff, such as sponsoring marathons and other events. On the left you can see our fantastic facilities coordinator Chris dressed up as Superman, raising money in support of the primary school opposite us.
Professional Development and Training
SEM are passionate about investing the benefits of our success back to our staff, and as such we run a generous program of training and courses. Everyone in our production area will have the opportunity to attain a Level 2 NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques during their time with us, which is a nationally recognised qualification and takes a year to complete. We also possess the skill in house to train on various Health and Safety qualifications, including IOSH, which we provide free of charge to everyone with line management experience. It is in keeping with our core values of excellence and pride that we are all working to keep up to date with the latest best practice in our areas of expertise, and ensure we are equipped with the qualifications necessary to excel in our roles. You can read more about our Learning and Development offering here.
We offer childcare vouchers via the Governments Scheme to make paying for childcare a little bit easier. Over a year this could save you up to £933, and the vouchers are accepted at nurseries, school clubs, childminders and many more.
SEM run a Cycle2work scheme which means you can have a brand new bike paid for through your wages. As well as the obvious health benefits of cycling to work, choosing a bike through this scheme will also save you money. You will lease the bike through a salary sacrifice arrangement, meaning that the amount deducted each month comes from your pre tax pay. Effectively the government is subsidising part of the cost of your bike.
Annual Salary: £20,000
Hours worked: 40/week
Cost of bike: £500
Gross salary sacrifice per month: £41.67
Tax saving: £8.33
NI saving: £5.00
Net Cost: £28.34
Total cost of Bike: £500
Annual saving: £159.92
Annual net cost: £340.08
In other words, £340.08 of the cost of the bike would come from your pay, with the other £159.92 being saved.
